Healing Trauma Through Hypnotherapy.

"Healing from trauma isn’t about forgetting the past  it’s about reclaiming your future with courage and compassion."

Understanding Trauma

Trauma can deeply affect the mind and body. Whether it comes from a single event or repeated stress over time, its impact can linger, influencing how you feel, think, and respond to everyday life.

Healing from trauma looks different for every person but with the right support, positive change is possible.
Hypnotherapy offers a gentle, mind-body approach that encourages calm, resilience, and new ways of responding to past experiences.

The Science Behind Trauma

When something overwhelming happens, the brain can shift into protection mode

• The amygdala may stay alert, creating feelings of tension, worry, or being “on edge.”
• The hippocampus, which organises memories, may find it harder to place the event in the past, making the experience feel more present than it really is.

This neurological pattern helps explain why trauma can feel “stuck.”

Hypnotherapy works with the subconscious the part of the mind where emotions, memories, and automatic responses are stored creating an opportunity for clients to explore new emotional patterns in a calm, supportive environment.

How Hypnotherapy Can Support Trauma Recovery

Hypnotherapy uses deep relaxation and focused awareness to help you access the subconscious mind. In this state, many people find it easier to process emotions, develop resilience, and create healthier internal responses.

Here are some of the ways hypnotherapy may support trauma healing

Gentle Access to Subconscious Material

Trauma memories are often stored in fragmented or overwhelming ways. In hypnosis, clients can explore emotions and past events from a place of calmness, making them feel more manageable.

Reducing Anxiety and Emotional Reactivity

Hypnotic techniques can help calm the nervous system and reduce the intensity of emotional triggers.

Rebuilding Self-Esteem and Empowerment

Trauma can affect your sense of worth. Hypnotherapy supports the development of confidence, safety, and inner strength.

Encouraging Emotional Release

Some approaches allow clients to safely release built-up emotional tension, helping them feel lighter and more in control.

What the Research Suggests

Research indicates that hypnosis may be a helpful complementary approach for people dealing with trauma-related symptoms.

Clinical research
Studies report improvements in emotional regulation, comfort, and overall wellbeing when hypnosis is used alongside standard care.

Reviews and academic literature
Meta-level research suggests hypnosis may support the processing of difficult memories and reduce distress for some people.

Brain-based studies
Neuroscience research shows that hypnosis can influence areas of the brain associated with memory, emotion, and perception.

What to Expect in Trauma-Focused Hypnotherapy

Every person is unique, but here’s a general outline of how sessions may look.

1. Initial Consultation

We begin with a gentle conversation to understand your story, needs, and what you hope to achieve. Safety, trust, and pacing are the foundation of trauma-focused work.

2. Relaxation and Induction

You’ll be guided into a calm, focused state fully aware and in control, much like daydreaming to support a sense of ease and inner safety.

3. Exploring Emotions and Inner Experiences

We may work with imagery, sensations, or emotions to gently access what needs attention, without forcing you to relive distressing events.

4. Emotional Release Techniques

Some methods use movement, tapping, or guided imagery to help release built-up emotional energy in a controlled, supportive way.

5. Reframing and Positive Suggestions

We work with the subconscious to introduce new, empowering perspectives that support confidence, safety, and resilience.

6. Future Pacing and Integration

You’ll be guided to imagine handling future situations with strength and calmness, helping integrate the progress made in the session.

7. Closing and Aftercare

You’ll be gently brought back to full awareness, with space to ground, reflect, and receive aftercare guidance.
The hypnosis portion of your session can be recorded for you to use at home if you wish many clients find this helpful for reinforcement.

Sessions are always guided at your pace and may vary depending on your needs.
