Supporting your life Journey
I am a Reiki Master and teacher. Reiki -Pronounced Ray Key - both a spiritual practice and an energy healing system originating in Japan from its founder Mikao Usui. Reiki is a natural safe and simple form of healing. Reiki energy is available to all. Once you are attuned to Reiki you are able to use reiki energy to help yourself and others, by placing your hands on or above the body in various positions giving the intention that Reiki energy will flow. The energy of Reiki works for the highest good.
Reiki can be used on the person as a whole, or on specific parts of the body. It is also possible to receive Reiki at a distance and aims to work on the four levels of healing; the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

It is a tradition that is open to any belief system and benefits may include deep relaxation and the promotion of a calm peaceful sense of wellbeing.

Reiki is completely safe for all to receive and does not interfere with orthodox medicines.

The History of Reiki
Reiki is a Japanese healing technique that promotes relaxation, stress reduction, and overall well-being. Its origins are deeply rooted in ancient practices and have evolved into a widely recognized form of energy healing practiced worldwide.

Origins of Reiki
Reiki, meaning "universal life energy," was developed by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century in Japan. Mikao Usui (1865-1926) was a Japanese Buddhist monk who embarked on a quest to discover a method of healing that did not deplete his own energy. This journey led him to study ancient texts and meditative practices from various cultures, including Buddhism and traditional Chinese medicine.
In 1922, after a 21-day fasting and meditation retreat on Mount Kurama, Usui experienced a profound spiritual awakening. He felt a powerful energy that allowed him to heal himself and others without draining his own energy. This experience marked the birth of the Usui System of Natural Healing, or Usui Reiki Ryoho.

Development and Spread of Reiki
Mikao Usui began teaching and practicing Reiki in Japan, where he established a clinic in Tokyo. He trained several students, emphasizing the importance of self-healing, spiritual development, and treating others. Usui's teachings included the Five Reiki Principles, which are guidelines for living a balanced and ethical life.
Usui's most notable student, Chujiro Hayashi, a retired naval officer, further developed the Reiki system. Hayashi established a clinic in Tokyo and introduced a more structured approach to Reiki practice, including hand positions and treatment protocols. He also played a crucial role in spreading Reiki beyond Japan.
Reiki's Journey to the West
One of Chujiro Hayashi’s students, Hawayo Takata, a Japanese-American woman, is credited with bringing Reiki to the Western world. Takata, born in Hawaii, discovered Reiki while seeking treatment for her own health issues in Japan in the 1930s. After experiencing remarkable healing through Reiki, she trained under Hayashi and became a Reiki Master.
Hawayo Takata returned to Hawaii and began practicing and teaching Reiki. She trained 22 Reiki Masters before her death in 1980, ensuring the continuation and spread of Reiki practice in the West. Takata's work laid the foundation for Reiki's global expansion, as her students spread the practice throughout the United States and other countries.
Evolution of Reiki
Since its introduction to the West, Reiki has evolved and diversified. Several branches and styles of Reiki have emerged, each with its unique techniques and philosophies. Despite these variations, all forms of Reiki share the fundamental belief in channeling universal life energy to promote healing and balance.
Some of the prominent styles of Reiki include:
-
Usui Shiki Ryoho: The traditional form of Reiki as taught by Mikao Usui and Chujiro Hayashi, focusing on healing and spiritual growth.
-
Karuna Reiki: Developed by William Lee Rand, this style incorporates additional symbols and techniques to enhance healing.
-
Jikiden Reiki: A form of Reiki that aims to preserve the original teachings of Mikao Usui and Chujiro Hayashi without Western modifications.

Principles of Reiki
Reiki is based on several key principles:
-
Universal Life Energy: Reiki practitioners believe in an unseen life force energy that flows through all living things. When this energy is low, we are more likely to feel stress or become ill. When it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
-
Channeling Energy: Reiki practitioners act as channels for this universal life energy, using their hands to transfer healing energy to the recipient.
-
Holistic Healing: Reiki addresses the whole person, including the body, emotions, mind, and spirit, promoting overall well-being and balance.
-
Self-Healing: Reiki encourages self-healing and personal growth, with practitioners often performing Reiki on themselves to maintain their own health and balance.
