💭 Why Do I React Like This?

Understanding Emotional Patterns Without Judgement

Have you ever had a moment where something small set you off — and you couldn’t quite explain why? Maybe you snapped at someone, completely shut down, or your body flooded with anxiety out of nowhere. And then came the self-talk. “Why am I like this?” “I should be over this by now.” “I’m being ridiculous.”

First of all — let’s stop right there. You’re not being ridiculous. You’re being human. And what you’re experiencing likely isn’t just about the present moment — it’s about something deeper.

Patterns, Not Personality

What many people don’t realise is that our reactions are often shaped by emotional patterns laid down early in life. Not because we’re broken — but because the brain and body are incredibly efficient at keeping us safe.

From a young age, we start learning:

  • How to respond to stress

  • What emotions are “acceptable”

  • Whether it's safe to speak up, cry, ask for help, or trust

And those responses? They don’t always stay in childhood. They grow with us — quietly becoming the default setting in our adult lives.

So if you freeze when you should speak up, or find yourself stuck in people-pleasing, or constantly on edge... it's not that you're weak or flawed. It's just that a very old part of you learned that response was necessary once — and it's still running the show.

Your Nervous System is Involved Too

ree

This isn’t just psychological — it’s physiological. Your nervous system, particularly the part responsible for keeping you safe (the fight/flight/freeze/fawn responses), plays a huge role in how you react.

Here’s what’s important.

👉 These systems aren’t conscious choices.

👉 You don’t “decide” to overthink or shut down.

👉 You’re not choosing anxiety, numbness, or burnout.

Your body is trying to protect you — even when the “danger” is long gone.

Over time, though, what once kept you safe can start holding you back. And that’s where awareness and gentle support come in.

So What Can You Do About It?

You don’t need to dig into every painful memory or rehash your entire past to make change. In fact, many of the most powerful shifts come from working gently and holistically — connecting body, mind, and subconscious.

💡 That might look like:

  • Working with the subconscious to shift outdated beliefs

  • Supporting the nervous system to feel safe in the present, not just the past

  • Learning how to respond instead of react

  • Gaining clarity about who you are beneath the coping mechanisms

This is the kind of work I do with clients — adults, teens, and even children — who are tired of just “coping” and are ready to feel more like themselves again.

There’s no one-size-fits-all, and we never force or rush the process. Instead, we work at your pace, with deep respect for where you’ve been and where you’re going.

You’re Not Broken — You’re Wired for Survival

ree

Let that sink in for a moment. You’re not overreacting. You’re not difficult. You’re not too sensitive, or too emotional, or too much.

You’re a human being with a history, a body, and a brilliant system that learned how to protect you — even if it’s now a little out of date.

And the really exciting part? With the right kind of support, that system can learn a new way.
